6 Affirming Reflections to start your Morning Routine

Have you ever noticed while you were at work or even at home you presented with a bad attitude when you didn’t put Jesus first in your morning routine?
A familiar Christian song has lyrics that go like this:
In the morning when I rise
Give me Jesus.
then it says
You can have all this world
But give me Jesus

I have found it quite difficult to put these lyrics into practice each morning. When I rise, I have a baby laying on top of me and a toddler pulling my blanket off my feet. I am no where near calling on the name of Jesus at that moment when I rise. In all honesty I have seen an immense negative impact in my daily routine when I don’t put Jesus first.

I strongly believe if you want to have a joyful, more peaceful day- it should start off with nothing but Jesus. (Not even coffee)
I’m sure you’ve been taught this already in the past, as have I, but maybe you need a change in the way you meet and greet your Savior every morning.
I compiled 6 short and effective prayers or reflections you can use first thing in the morning to affirm your identity in Christ.
If we reflect and understand what our WORTH IS EVERY MORNING, we may actually have a more peaceful day.
Let these reflections help you embrace the fact that you ARE chosen, loved, called, redeemed, justified, sanctified, forgiven, cleansed, and complete in Christ.
  1. Thank you for CHOOSING ME before the foundation of the world. Help me to be holy and blameless before you. Ephesians 1:4
  2. Thank you for adopting me, and calling me a CHILD OF GOD. Help me to experience the great love the Father has bestowed upon us. 1 John 3:1
  3. Thank you for being faithful and just to FORGIVE me of all my sins. Cleanse and purify me from all ungodliness. 1 John 1:9
  4. Thank you for JUSTIFYING me, presenting me as right before God. Thank you for SANCTIFYING ME, by setting me apart. Help me not to conform to the things of this world. Romans 5:1, 1 Corinthians 6:11.
  5. Thank you for REDEEMING me, by releasing me from the bondage of sin. Thank you for CLEANSING me through the priceless blood of Christ. Let me always reflect upon your sacrifice. Ephesians 1:7, 1 John 1:7
  6. Thank you for allowing me to be COMPLETE in him. Let me not turn to others for fulfillment. Colossians 2:10

If you are wondering how to obtain this identity in Christ, it is quite simple!

Romans 10:9 says If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

When I put my full faith in the Lord, he gave me this new identity in Him.

As I reflect each morning about my identity, I draw closer to Him. I am proud to be called a Child of God. With these simple reminders, I am starting to have a brighter and more joyful day.

Sue , these are beautiful prayers and so full of truth! I absolutely agree that affirming our identity as loved children of God is THE best way to start the day. Printing these prayers to pop them in my Bible 🙂

It’s so hard when you’re a momma to little ones. You’re just depleted of every thing. What a good reminder to start the morning with gratitude and remembering who we are in HIM. Great post!

Thanks Anu! Your kids are bigger I assume. We should share insight on how you manage to spend time with the Lord!

Sue, this is a beautiful, inspiring post! I remember those days with a baby and toddler…they pass ALL too quickly! Now it’s easier to enjoy my morning quiet time without interruption. I applaud you for being faithful in your time of divided attention!

Thanks Sarah, I am trying hard to really focus on being faithful every morning, but I do fail often!

Thanks for this encouragement! Mornings are such a difficult for me because I am not a morning person. I find that on the days I get up and do my quiet time before the kids are up, we have a much much better day. So that has been my commitment for summer: quiet time before the kids get up. So far, so good!

Quiet time before the kids wake up! That has been my prayer that God gives me that alone time with him. The days I do get it, it feels amazing!

These are great reflections and reminders of who we are in Christ Jesus. I’m well past the days of having young children in the house so it is easier for me to sit at His feet, but there are always distractions that try to pull me away. Something we must all guard against.
    Have a blessed day.

Starting the day off with Jesus is always the best! I have been lacking in my morning routine so much the last couple of weeks, getting to bed later than usual, resulting in waking up later than usual. I definitely notice a not so good difference when I am not sticking to my morning routine! These are great reminders, prayers, and reflections to start anyone’s day off with. Thank you for sharing!

Yes routines are good to keep. But seasons change routines, and I guess you have to see where your priorities lay for the day! Hope you get back to your morning routine to fit the Lord in 🙂
