Here is a fun fact about me- I had perfect attendance from 6th grade all the way through 12th grade! Does that make me a geek? (That’s a rhetorical question-don’t answer it!)

School is right around the corner, and I can’t believe I will be sending my son off to Kindergarten the day after Labor Day! As I was buying him jeans and long sleeved shirts for the fall, I suddenly was overcome with emotion while waiting on line to purchase his clothes. A bunch of “what ifs” came into my mind. What if my son makes the wrong friends, what if he becomes overwhelmed from what he learns (I heard kindergarten is the new first grade!) Then I thought back to my years at school. Every morning after we got ready, my dad or mom waited at the foyer so we couldn’t run out the door, and they prayed over us. Imagine how many prayers went up for protection, for knowledge, for friendships.
I looked through scripture to see what I can pray for my son for the many, many years to come. I wish to stop him at the door, pray for him, and give him encouraging words so he knows mom, dad, and God is by His side! As I searched through my bible app, I thought about what would worry me as he went through his school day. These 10 verses helped me write out my own specific prayers for my children, thinking about those many mornings from Kindergarten to 12th grade, that I now have to pray over my three boys.
1) Lord, help my children not to be conformed to the world!
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
2) Lord, help my children not to fall into temptation and sin!
1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
3) Lord, help my children not to feel discouraged!
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
4) Lord, help my children to be an example to others though they are young!
1 Timothy 4:12
Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
5)Lord, help my children not to feel overwhelmed with homework, projects, and after school activities!
And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
6) Lord, help my children not to be ashamed to live for you!
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
7) Lord, help my children to love you first!
Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’This is the first and great commandment.
8) Lord, help my children to make the right friends!
A man who has friends must himself be friendly,But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
9) Lord, help my children grow in wisdom and understanding!
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
10) Lord, protect my children from harm and danger, please keep them safe!
The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in. From this time forth, and even forevermore.
Wishing you all a great 2017- 2018 school year! And to those moms and dads whose kids are not yet in school or have graduated and finished their education, these verses can still be applied in our own daily lives.
